The second map, which is scheduled to be released in the coming months, will detail how the fire began at the bakery of Thomas Farriner (pictured) and spread throughout the city.

Mini games will allow players to experience the Great Fire. They can join firefighters fighting the flames using traditional tools, including recreations of 17th Century firetruck (pictured) or buckets made of leather.

They can then walk around different terrains, such as mountains, forests and caves. To get a bird's-eye view players can fly in the air.

Players are now able to experience virtual reality, thanks to the game launching for the Oculus Rift.

Joshua Blair, the museum's digital learning coordinator, stated that the map that was the first in the Great Fire1666 series allowed us to make visitors feel part of London's history and times in 1666. We were able to recreate the narrow streets and iconic landmarks like St Paul's Cathedral or London Bridge to create the setting for the fire.

He added: 'This new map is where the Great Fire story really unfolds and we hope that players will take pleasure in exploring this watershed moment in London's history in a fun and engaging way.'

According to its creators , the mini-games attract historical figures such as King Charles II, Thomas Farriner (whose bakery set the blaze) and Samuel Pepys (a famous diarist who documented the blaze).

The game forms part of the museum's Great Fire 1666 exhibit, which runs until April 2017.

The new maps will be available to download on Mac and PC starting 2 September.
